Description

French Gendarmerie Modele 1912 Helmet

World War I

11" (to top of plume), 7" (To top of crown)x8"x11.25". Brass shell helmet with German Silver fittings depicting a bomb over the brow and what appears to be a Gorgon adorning the plume. Item mounts a black horsehair plume with tail, socket for feather plume to the left side, and leather chinstrap with German Silver segments and {Lion Head} cockades. Maker mark struck into the rear helmet below plume reads P. FRANCK & SES FILS/AUBERVILLIERS. Size 58 struck above the maker mark and applied via sticker to the leather suspension. Item is missing the ties for the suspension.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.

Condition
Good. Brass shows some tarnish with further dust and tarnish forming over German Silver components. Some scattered light dents. Suspension exhibits some cracking, crazing, and wastage.
