North Africa, Morocco, Devonian Period, ca. 416 to 359.2 million years ago. A collection of 3 fossilized trilobites in separate stone matrices, each carefully excavated and prepared to show off the interesting bodies. The larger pair are both Paralajurus trilobites, and the smaller one is possibly a Cornuproetus. The trilobite (meaning three-lobes) was a marine arachnomorph arthropod that seems to have been one of the most ubiquitous animals from the Early Cambrian to the Late Permian, when they were killed during the mass extinction. They had an easily fossilized exoskeleton, which is clearly visible on these specimens, and the black contrasts nicely with the lighter surrounding stone. Size of largest stone matrix: 3.75" L x 2.5" W x 1.75" H (9.5 cm x 6.4 cm x 4.4 cm); fossil: 2.5" L x 1.2" W (6.4 cm x 3 cm)
