Item Details
Description
This is an amazingly rare Sandusky Norwalk and Mansfield Electric Railway Adlake round top class lamp. It is in AMAZING condition, and everything works as it should! The railroad began operations in July of 1905 and ended service in March of 1921. Very few of these lanterns survive, and it is the only one we have ever encountered. One of the fine rarities from the Matthews collection. Has two clear lenses that are like-new. Inside, one finds two red lenses and two green lenses, both with move easily with the outside flipper knobs. Correct inner chimney when opening the chimney latch. Side door opens easily and also shows the correct Adams and Westlake fount and long stem brass burner. Welded tag on the rim shows S.N & M.E.R.R. and the rim is also cast with RIGHT, as this is a right side car lantern. Brass manufacturers tag remains on the chimney, showing patent dates of 1895, 1899, 1903, 1904, and 1907. Mounting arm that attaches to the car is also present. An amazing rarity that Ohio railroad enthusiasts will love to own!
