Offered here for your consideration is "Runners" 35/150, a mezzotint signed artwork by Gatja Helgart Rothe. Rothe was born in Beuthen, German Silesia (which after WWII became Poland). In 1947 her family moved to Wiedenbrück as war refugees. This left an impression on Rothe and impacted the style of her artwork. After surviving the war Rothe's father rejoined the family and reestablished his jewelry trade by building a goldsmith studio and opening a jewelry store. Her father inclined her to develop her artistic skills by tasking to draw a flower everyday. Given her background of goldsmithing, drawing, and later studying art history and human anatomy, Rothe found her way to mezzotint art. She was determined to revive this challenging technique, leading to her invention of transparency in mezzotint art the year of 1972. Her years of research and practice gave her the perfect medium for her vast repertoire of images and anatomy landscapes. This piece here is a great example of Rothe's mezzotints. Using bold shades the artist is able to captivate her viewers attention with an spectacular depiction of horses galloping across the artwork. This mezzotint comes with a certificate of authenticity and other paperwork stating this is an original hand-pulled mezzotint.
