John Sebastian | Tie-Dye Tops
Item Details
Description
A pair of tie-dye tops owned by The Lovin' Spoonful founder, John Sebastian.

The first cotton, short-sleeved top, dyed by Sebastian for his wife Catherine Sebastian, features a red, orange, and yellow striped tie-dye pattern, and a three-quarter button-down neckline, label present but illegible, no size present. The second Cerulean blue velour long-sleeved top features a v-neckline, dagger collar, and four metal button-down sleeve cuffs, label torn out, size L.

The ensemble was dyed, c. late 1960s- early 1970s, at the 46-acre artistic community near Studio City called "The Farm." At The Farm, Sebastian was nicknamed "guitar fingers" due to his tight grip on his fabric (strength gained from playing the guitar) during the tie-dye process.
