East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A set of 2 hollow-molded pottery tomb attendant figures known as mingqi (or ming qi). Each figure stands with arms crossed atop their chest, wearing lengthy robes that drape down to their ankles, and have their coiffures tightly bound in a mound atop their heads. The exterior surfaces are decorated with light orange pigment for the ground, and remains of white and red pigment are visible in scattered areas. Size of largest: 2.3" L x 2.875" W x 10" H (5.8 cm x 7.3 cm x 25.4 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
One figure with repair to head and restoration to front of base, with chips and earthen deposits along new material and break lines; second figure has small losses to base on verso. Each figure with earthen deposits, fading to pigment, light chips and abrasions, and softening to finer details, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to figural forms.
