Description
South Carolina, United States, ca. 1770-1790 CE. This is a fascine knife made of iron; it was found in the ruins of Bigging Church in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. It has a long, thin tang and a curved tip. Fascine knives were side arms issues to light infantry and artillery from the 17th to 19th centuries. The name comes from its use as a tool to cut fascines -- bundles of sticks used to support and strengthen the sides of trenches. Size: 13.55" L x 4" W (34.4 cm x 10.2 cm)
