Description
Six campaign ferrotypes with gilt and stamped frames. Includes five 1" diameter and one 5/8" diameter examples. Comprises: 1.) 1" diameter bearing ridged-edge frame stamped on either side with the corresponding candidates' name and date "1860." Holed for suspension. Douglas portrait bears minor craquelure. Johnson portrait darkened with minor bubbling at lower right. 2.) 1" diameter bearing ridged-edge frame stamped on either side with the corresponding candidates' name "Stephen Douglas" and "Abraham Lincoln" with date "1860." Holed for suspension. Douglas portrait bears two chips affecting forehead and chin. Lincoln portrait completely blackened. 3.) 1" diameter with frame stamped on either side with the corresponding candidates' name "Stephen A. Douglas" and "Herschel V. Johnson" and date "1860." Holed for suspension. Both portraits completely portraits. 4.) 1" diameter with frame stamped on either side with the corresponding candidates' name "Stephen A. Douglas" and "Herschel V. Johnson" and date "1860." Holed for suspension. Douglas portrait bears soiling and bubbling affecting one eye and forehead. Johnson portrait soiled with two minor chips at edge. 5.) 1" diameter ridged-edge frame stamped on one side "Union of The States 1860" and on the other "The Constitution / And the Laws." Both portraits bear the candidate's name "Stephen A. Douglas" and "Herschel V. Johnson" in-the-negative above their heads. Holed for suspension. Both portraits nearly obscured by scratches and soiling. 6) 5/8" diameter with one side of frame stamped "Douglas / Johnson" around a portrait of Stephen Douglas. The other side bears a portrait of Herschel Johnson. Both portraits bear minor bubbling with the Johnson image slipped in the mount.
