**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1000 CE. A lovely Chimu textile fragment comprised of two panels, sewn together with gold thread, made from tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of gold, ruby, amethyst, and cream. The decorative register depicts a repeating series of abstract avian figures, with larger purple-on-gold and red-on-purple panels enclosed with solid, ruby-hued bars. Between the solid sections are a group of four smaller birds in chromatic arrangements of red-on-gold as well as gold-on-purple. Slender panels with red zigzag designs flank either side of the avian groups, with those enclosed by purple and gold thread. A gorgeous example from ancient Peru! Mounted on fabric backing. Size (textile): 11.375" L x 2.75" W (28.9 cm x 7 cm); size (backing): 17.25" L x 8.875" W (43.8 cm x 22.5 cm).
