Chronographs are hot these days for collectors and this charming example by Eberhard from the early 1950s is sure not to disappoint.
It features an incredibly wearable now and incredibly big back in the 50s, 39 mm solid gold 3-body case with a snap-on back. Note the impressive near mint condition on this 1950s watch all the way down to the brushed and high polished finishing. Seldom worn and it shows, a true safe queen.
Moving over to the beautiful white dial we notice it’s original and untouched, the condition of the dial is consistent with the one of the case and that’s a very important details when assessing the authenticity of the watch.
The faceted dauphine styled hands and sub register hands are in excellent shape showing no oxidation. Moving over to the applied Eberhard & Co logo and extra-fort printing we notice the same pristine condition, same goes for the applied hour markers.
Also noteworthy, is the presence of the signed crown.
At the heart of this chronograph lies a Eberhard cal.1600 which is in fact based off a Valjoux 65. An odd ball caliber in it's own right, not only for it’s big size requiring a big case but also for an unusual system.The Valjoux 65’s chrono is operated with single upper pusher, as typical monopusher would while the lower pusher is actually a slider, which is used to lock or unlock chrono function.
