PROVENANCE:
Joseph Raford Collins III, (1918 - 2019). Born and his formative years were in central Ohio. After graduation from high school, he worked as crop duster flying single engine planes. In mid 1941 he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the European theater and Africa flying single and multi-engine planes, including the Beech 18, B-25, and the fighter P-51 Mustang. Mr. Collins was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Combat Air Medal with numerous clusters, among other decorations. After World War II, Mr. Collins continued to work for the aircraft industry as a flight line mechanic, instructor, design engineer on experimental aircraft and as a test pilot, while pursue his passion for collecting antiques, especially Asians. In 1968 Mr. Collins moved to Georgia to work for the major airlines that were located in the Atlanta area. He passed away in his home in Morrow, GA in 2019. His soul flying in the sky where Mr. Collins had served his country and his community during his lifetime.

Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty gilt bronze cloisonne statues in the form of two caparisoned green jade carved elephant effigies, with their heads tilting to the right and left. The elephants are carrying gu beaker vases atop blanketing saddles, adorned with centered longevity symbols. The beaker vases each carry two Fangtian-ji (Song dynasty) crescent spears that have dangling tassels. The blanket is designed in resplendent rococo patterns that depict blooming lotus flowers which is also mirrored along the perimeter of the pedestal. The Elephant - is the last of the four Animals of Power and Energy. It represents strength, sagacity, and prudence. The statues adorned with many auspicious floral patterns with colorful semi-precious stones inlaid. The design is elegant with colors that entice the eyes. This is truly a masterful work of art.

Condition
Over all in EXCELLENT condition. Traced numerous tiny-holes of corrosions on enamel filling, No missing wires found on cloisonne works. With normal anomalies in nature, sign of stressed surface, minor scratch & dents, and trace of declined on gilt; Normal, consider ages and wear.
