Description
Gold velvet box lined with quilted blue satin and filled with handmade lace items and trim as well as a small needlework sampler, two antique tortoise shell combs, and a candle snuffer. Hand made lace includes needle lace, bobbin lace, a 48" Brussels lace scarf or tie, a 50" long piece of Brussels bobbin lace, a lace embroidered baby bonnet, and more. Also included is a christening gown with a note which states that the lace for the dress was made by the child's nurse and the dress made at the Convent of the Blessed Sacrament in New York. Finally, a small sachet of silk brocade stuffed with fragrant powder, (leaking) with the following note written in elegant script: "Brocade from a gown worn at a ball given in honor of Marquis de La Fayette", the French aristocrat who fought in the American Revolutionary War. Offered together with a small cardboard box of antique embroidered and monogrammed silk and linen handkerchiefs and a pink cardboard box of satin baby items. Velvet box, approx. 11 1/4" x 7 1/2" x 5".
