Description
**First Time At Auction**
Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo, ca. mid 20th century CE. A lovely hand-crafted ring comprised of sterling silver (95% silver) and a polished turquoise stone. The stone is ovoid with natural black veins and sits in a serrated bezel on an ovoid face. Below the stone is a raised and incised motif of a stylized eagle which may represent a thunderbird. The bird’s body is triangular, and the wings are outstretched and reach to the shoulders of the shank. The shank tapers from the shoulders to a thin band. The verso of the face is stamped with the hallmark “STERLING © $.” This ring is wearable and has a nice patina from age. The thunderbird is a symbol of power and strength and a popular motif that has been adopted by many Native American tribes.
