Description
Oceania, Polynesia, Cook Islands, ca. 19th century CE. A utilitarian adze blade of sturdy form that is hand-carved from lustrous dark brown-gray stone. The compact tool features a triangular handle, a planar base, and a rectangular blade head with a sharpened edge. An adze blade like this example would be secured within a wooden handle body for use in myriad utilitarian tasks like plowing, chopping, and cutting. Size: 5.1" L x 2.2" W (13 cm x 5.6 cm)

Minor abrasions and pitting, with small chips to blade head and sharpened edge, otherwise intact and very good. Nice surface smoothness throughout.
