BIOGRAPHY:
Charles Shaw was born in Austin, Texas in 1941. He lived and worked in Central Texas in his hill country home in Dripping Springs. He was an author as well as an artist and was the art director for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine. On April 4th, 2000 Shaw was selected as the featured artist of the Austin Fine Arts Festival.His influences include: Malcolm Thurgood with whom he studied life drawing, Howard Pyle, John Singer Sargent, Frans Hals, and Norman Rockwell, who was Shaw's sponsor into the Society of Illustrators in New York.Typical subjects for Shaw are Texas frontier lifestyles, children and jazz musicians. He illustrated the book, Impressions of Texas by Charles Shaw (1986).Mr. Shaw has produced hundreds of illustrations of historical subjects for books, brochures, and articles over a span of more than 45 years; he was commissioned by The University of Texas Press to draw 248 images for the first edition of James Michener's two-volume historical epic, Texas; he wrote and illustrated Indian Life in Texas, and he recently published illustrations for From a Watery Grave: The Discovery and Excavation of La Salle's Shipwreck, La Belle; his work also appears in numerous children's books, including Little Johnny Raindrop, That's What Love Is, and the Walt Disney Davy Crockett series.
