Elsa Vick Shaw (Ohio, Arizona, 1891 - 1974)
A lesser-known member of the "Cleveland School" of artists, Elsa Shaw was a painter, craftsperson and designer, best known for her stylish streamlined interpretations of allegories and murals executed during the 1920s and 30s. She executed several allegorical panels to decorate the lobby of Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio - the home of the world famous Cleveland Orchestra.
Shaw was born in Cleveland and studied at the Cleveland School of Art with Henry Keller and Charles Hawthorne. She was active in the Cleveland Women's Art Club and the Cleveland Museum of Art where she exhibited frequently in the 1920s and 1930s.
Married to Glenn Shaw, she retired to Sun City, Arizona where she died in 1974.
