Item Details
Description
Pleasing carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph of a finely-dressed African American man identified by a period inscription as “Jack”. Jack holds his hat in one hand and rests a second on the finial of a large prop railing. Jack’s story is currently unknown, but given his age he may well have been a slave or servant. The image is in very good condition, with excellent totality. We note some light soiling and a small water mark at the top left corner. There is no backmark.
