1813 Massachusetts Contract Musket by Lemuel Pomeroy,
Pittsfield, Massachusetts, c. 1814.
42 in., .74 caliber round barrel, the left side of the breech marked 'P/SJ' and 'M/1814' and 'MASS,' the right side marked 'M' and the bayonet lug marked 'S'; flat lock plate with pointed tail, marked 'MASS' below the brass pan, the inside of the plate marked 'JL' and most parts marked with a four-dot assembly number; walnut stock marked 'M' below the trigger guard and with initials 'AW' carved on the right side of the butt; iron furniture of common form, the trigger guard with blunt finials, the trigger plate marked 'H.O.,' with sling swivels and later steel rammer with button head and plain end.

Lemuel Pomeroy was advanced $2,000 in early 1813 to produce an unknown quantity of muskets for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at a cost of $10.75 each. By August 12, 1814, Pomeroy had delivered only 125 muskets and he refunded the Commonwealth the remaining money not spent in producing arms (George D. Moller, American Military Shoulder Arms, Vol. II: From the 1790s to the End of the Flintlock Period, (Niwot, CO: University Press of Colorado, 1993), pp. 221-222).

All metal parts scrubbed bright, light pitting at the breech; lock has a period replaced internal bridle and functions properly; stock has scattered dings and dents, rammer is a reproduction.
