Description
Early pencil sketch attributed to American artist Jon Carsman. Sketch depicts a street scene with four figures walking towards the viewer, a fallen child, and large street signs. Signed Carsman and dated by artist on lower right. Canvas border with unfinished wood frame. Jon Carsman was known for colorful screen print works, which utilized highly saturated color blocks and deep contrasting shadows. His works often depicted quiet suburban landscapes in a style reminiscent of Edward Hopper. His works can be found in many public collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Tragically, Jon Carsman was one of the many artists whose life was claimed during the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s. This sketch would have been created when he was twenty-four years old. Sight size: 15.5"W x 19.5"H; frame: 16.75"W x 20.75"H x 1.25"D.
