Original schoolprize vellum binding with a gold spine, armorial cornerpieces on both covers, and the coat of arms of the city of Utrecht within a gilt floral border. upper pastedown with owner's entry; some foxing. Soiled vellum; no connections. Dimensions: 5 1/4 by 8 3/4"; excellent condition; slight vellum soiling Greek and Latin text. Eutropius was a Roman officer and historian who lived from 363 to 387 AD. Breviarium Historiae Romanae, his book, provides an overview of events from the eighth-century BC, when Rome was founded, to the author's lifetime. The Breviarium, valued by succeeding generations for its lucid style and organization, can serve as an addition to more extensive fragmented remains of Roman historical texts.
