Description
second half 19th century, 391 x 173 cm, Eastern Central Anatolia
BRÜGGEMANN, WERNER, Yayla. Form und Farbe in türkischer Textilkunst. Frankfurt 1993, pl. 137 *** WILLBORG, PETER / ALBERTSON, INGEMAR, Woven Magic. A Book About Kilims. Stockholm 1992, no. 31
This beautiful flatwoven wedding blanket with a kilim foundation and a brocaded design consists of five narrow bands in different ground colours. It was made by a Kurdish tribal group in South East Anatolia. Such blankets were produced by the mother of the bride and set up like a screen behind the bridal couple during the wedding ceremony. After the wedding they served as room dividers to separate the bridal couple from the rest of the family. The quality of the colours is outstanding.
Very good condition.
