Description
second half 19th century, 157 x 132 cm, East Anatolia
RAGETH, JÃœRG, Kilim. Rome 1985, fig. 24
This finely woven prayer kilim woven on wool warps is from Erzurum. It is uncommonly wide. The green mihrab field with a cone-shaped tip is densely patterned in red hexagons that each contain a diamond with a yellow serrated outline. In the upper section, a tree of life ascends from a bowl as far as the apex of the arch which is crowned by three stems. The arch is flanked by a large tree on each side. The woven date seen at the top right cannot be read clearly. Another example of this rare group was published by Rageth in 1985.
Signs of age and wear, a number of holes and missing areas, the sides are incomplete all around. Mounted onto a black fabric.
