Description
This large single-panel brocaded weaving comes from the Korkuteli region in south western Anatolia, located to the northwest of Antalya. The dark red field ground has a dense design of halved elibelinde motifs in interlocked horizontal stripes in alternating colours. The shape of the motifs automatically results in zigzag bands. The white panels are the ordering factor in this composition based on constant repetition of the same motif. All known examples of this rare group are virtually indistinguishable, also in terms of the narrow border.
Slight signs of age and wear, rewoven areas and damage to the sides, a number of missing areas in the end finishes. Both ends backed with fabric, the edges are partially backed with fabric. Provenance: Rabe Collection, Berlin
