Description
In this gorgeous Kazak finely woven in the format of a Talish, the perfection of the drawing and quality of the colours are impressive features. It is a carpet that will linger in the mind. The narrow deep red field surrounded by light green reciprocal trefoils is decorated with two rows of octagons that are notched at the sides and each contain a diamond with two large double hooks. Colourful diamonds have been added to the design from the field centre upwards. The wide white border contains very large star-shaped blossoms attached to four diagonal striped stems bearing a bud at their ends. The Kazak was exhibited in Frankfurt as early as 1962.
Small restored areas along the lateral edges, the original selvedges survive, occasional low spots in the pile and several stains. Somewhat reduced upper finish, some damage to the lower finish. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
