HALI 51, London 1990, ill. p. 191
A fragment of an early Aksaray kilim with a field design of large geometrically stylised carnations on a brown ground and a main border with massive reciprocal trefoils in dark red and light blue. The kilim has now been consigned from a German collection. In 1990 it was published in HALI by Galerie Sailer and dated to the 17th century, as indicated not only by the style of drawing and the massive impact of the motifs, but above all by the outstanding quality of the colours in general, which include a striking deep aubergine.
Small holes and missing areas, heavily corroded brown. Mounted onto canvas and professionally attached to a wooden frame.
