Description
mid 19th century, 250 x 110 cm, South East Caucasus
This Talish has an empty green central field with multiple abrash surrounded by white reciprocal trefoils that are drawn with great precision. Characteristic for this rug group, the design of the white main border – Talish rosettes and blocks of four small, geometric abstract rosettes – is particularly beautiful in this item due to its spacious layout. Talish rugs presenting open undecorated fields are known as met hane type. Their ground colour is usually blue or red. Green-ground examples are far rarer.
Major restored sections in the central field, both end finishes repiled.
