Description
A Huttl Opus 59 acoustic archtop guitar, no serial number, in natural finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist.
This Huttl Opus is one of a larger collection of German-made archtop guitars acquired by Randy over the last 30 years. Enamored with these largely unsung luthiers and the high degree of craftsmanship evident within each instrument, Randy has taken great care to assemble many of the finest and rarest examples from this era of European guitar production.
Wolfgang Huttl (1921-1995) opened up shop in Bubenruth in the mid-to-late 1940s. Like many other instrument makers of German ethnicity at the time, he was expelled from Czechoslovakia and made to re-settle elsewhere. From then until the early 1980s, the company released an impressive number of hand-made instruments as well as those made by other manufacturers in later years.
This Huttl Opus is a fine specimen of the era. Spruce top, maple and mahogany striped back and sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard with large pearloid stripe block inlays. White floral button tuners, an ebony bridge, a Schaller-made harp tailpiece and an Ideal-branded pickup mounted to the neck. Tortoise shell pickguard, multi-ply white-black-white and pearloid binding,
Includes black hardshell case with green interior.
