Description
This is a very finely carved Old Teke Buti idol. Buti are named after and identified as specific male ancestors and located in a shrine to one’s deceased family members. Individual male devotees use buti figures to address a variety of personal concerns with help from the spirit world. This figure measures 9.5 inches tall and has several areas of decay and erosion. Teke peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. Provenance: Justin Barthels (1934-2021), gallery owner Maastricht (NL)
