Item Details
Description
An elegant and very finely carved wooden female effigy with incised linear designs and deep well handled surface patina. The image of a seated female is perhaps a reference to a Queen Mother. The sculpture shows some wear and decay, what remains is very solid, very dense strong and heavy wood. The figure measures 37 inches tall. Bamana peoples, Mali, Africa. Provenance: Ex James Anderson collection, Washington DC.
