Description
Unusual 19th century carved club, with oblong handle and grip this weapon was probably used as a slashing club or blade like instrument, we are unsure of the origins of the club but it could be Oceanic or Aboriginal Australian, the vestiges of braided grips on the handle are similar to many Pacific island weapons. It has a fish tail terminus and is roughly carved from a heavy hardwood.. There is glue and small paper residue on the handle of the weapon, presumably from an old collection or museum label. The rich patina and primitive tool marks make us believe this is 19th century or earlier. Height 48 3/4 (123.9 cm) Width 3 Inches (7.5 cm)
