Extremely rare Mexican Colonial Tin Glazed Earthenware Chocolatero, or Chocolate Jar, with hand forged iron locking lid. Jar and iron work date to 18th century. Painted majolica green red and manganese, Chinese inspired decoration. The jar was used to protect valuable spices, such as Chocolate or Vanilla in a wealthy house.. Height 11 ½ Inches (29.5 cm) Width 7 ½ Inches (19.0 cm)
Condition
Very good condition, some firing flaws and glaze issues, one small loss to openwork wrought iron rim.
