Hand carved about 1870 in the Gothic manner, this monumental English bookcase or display cabinet is solid walnut.

Showing remarkable artistry, "linen fold" panels, crenelated towers and arched tracery are authentic. Drawers have original carved knobs and solid walnut sides with hand cut dovetail joints.

Seven separate pieces for easier moving, this historic antique furniture fits together beautifully. Only the top of the base has been revarnished for durability and stain resistance. The rest of the finish appears original, waxed and buffed, so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.

Exceptionally deep interiors will accommodate oversize art books or a collection of large objects. Two locks still operate, the rest of the keys are handles only in locks that do not work.

There is a tiny etched spot in one glass door pane. Shelves fit snugly and adjust on wooden supports. Measurements are 9' 7" wide, 9' 7 1/2" tall, 36" deep and the base cabinets are 35 1/2" high.
