GALVESTON HURRICANE (Boston Herald, September 10, 1900)[1] (Obv) 1900-P MS 64; [2] (Rev) 1900-S “Fine”;[3] (Obv) 1900-0 MS-63; [4] (Rev) 1900-P MS-62; SIZE: 34 X 26 “Isaac’s Storm” wiped out Galveston in the most deadly natural disaster in U.S. history, with over 6,000 citizens perishing out of a total population of 36,000. With the discovery of oil reserves at Spindletop, in Beaumont, Texas, in 1901, the city of Houston soon eclipsed Galveston as a population mecca.
