Baluch sofrehs with fully pile-woven fields are rarely seen. They appear to have been precious prestige objects that were only brought out on special occasions. First-rate sofrehs not destined for everyday use were always immaculately woven from the finest materials and with great attention to detail, like this beautiful example with a light camel field and a wide border in very dark colours decorated with an undulating Turkmen wavy vine. The aesthetic and haptic contrast between the knotted central section and the wide flatwoven finishes is particularly appealing. – Very good condition.
