Baluch Sofreh
Item Details
Description
first quarter 20th century, 147 x 78 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan

Sofrehs are covers that were placed on the ground before meals and the bowls of food placed on top. This Baluch sofreh is elaborately worked in different flatweaving techniques. Three large trees of life stand close together in the camel coloured field. Their V-shaped branches touch at the points and form an interlocking serrated design of pointed angles that swings up and down. The wide elems are decorated with design bands.

Two inserted areas in the field, good overall condition.
