Description
This is an antique circa 1950s-1960s oil painting on canvas of what appears to be a great blue heron (or possibly a sandhill crane), signed by Minnesota artist Virginia Swanke Morris (daughter of artist Emma Flohr). Original wood stretcher bars with old frame. 38 1/2" x 30". Virginia (Swanke) Morris was born October 20, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; she died in 2017. At the University of Minnesota she studied fine art with Jo Lutz Rollins and art history with Donald Torbert. She graduated from the Pepin Academy of Fashion, Minneapolis and attended the Minneapolis Institute of Art School where she continued to study painting with Walter Quirt, Keith Havens, and Arthur Kerrick. She belonged to the Minnesota Artists Association where she studied with fine artists Bernie Quick and Cameron Booth.
Condition
Excellent condition except for a few nicks and scratches on the frame. The stretcher boards are a little loose in the frame in a couple of places, but that could be remedied without too much trouble.
