A true campaign chest comes in two parts, to be separated during war for transport. This chest has everything going for it. Looking at the back boards, you will see the separation, you will see the old wood, you will see the metal corners that keep it from being damaged. Five drawers, two on bottom, three on top. Batwing hardware. A beautiful antique piece. This is likely walnut wood and indicates this piece is made in England. This is a true Campaign chest made for English officers going on military campaigns or lengthy stays in BritainÂ’s colonies. The classic brass banding reinforces the chest, as these antiques were carted all over the globe, seeing frequent use. Each drawer is outfitted with the classic campaign flush mounted brass drop pulls (BATWING PULLS). The whole chest supported by bracket feet, likely circa 1830. While there are no bail handles, the handles that would have been used to lift and move the chests, it is likely that they have been gone for 100 years, and the lack of them does not detract from the value because as I researched this item, I found about 25% do not have the bail handles
