Item Details
Description
This lot consists of a professionally framed graphite drawing titled "Lovers", attributed to modern pop artist Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987). "Andy Warhol" is hand written in graphite at bottom left . Image depicts two men embraced in a passionate kiss. The young men are both similar in appearance, muscular jaw lines with stubbly beards. The viewer is drawn to the sensualness of this homoerotic drawing. This piece is executed in the splashy, pop culture-inspired style for which Warhol is so well known. This painting would make a great addition to any modern art collector's gallery. Overall framed dimensions measure approximately 19.5" x 16.5", image sight measures approximately 12" x 9".

Back of frame is cut away to reveal an ink which reads "The Estate of Andy Warhol". A second ink stamp reads "CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY" "The Undersigned Hereby Certify This To Be An Original ANDY WARHOL". The title is hand written in graphite "Lovers". Hand in graphite is the name "Frederick Hughes", underneath the signature reads "Frederick Hughes, Executor Estate of Andy Warhol".

In May, 1999, ARTNews magazine named him one of the twenty-five most influential artists-ever. About him, it was written: . . . "it all began with the first Campbell's soup can in 1962. . . With this simple image, the concepts of appropriation and commodification were let loose for good. Warhol's celebration of his screen sirens, hustler hunks, and cafe-society wanna-bees . . .had an equally dramatic effect."
