VERY RARE- This is one of the editions printed by J. Sacon for A. Koburger of Nuremberg. In this edition appears for the first time the references to Josephus, which were arranged by Johannes de Gradibus.

According to Darlow & Moule, this is the first edition to include the Josephus references.

VERY RARE, USTC locates only 14 examples in the libraries worldwide, none as unique as the Royal Library edition.

An excellent specimen of early 16th-century Lyonesse typography and woodcut illustrations, this sumptuously produced Vulgate Bible is illustrated with four fine large three near full-page, one half-page woodcuts, and about 140 charming smaller woodcuts in text.

Some of the 144 woodcuts are of a very curious character. Catalogue of the Famous Library of the Late J. B. Learmont, Anderson Galleries, NY, 1917, no. 263

This edition of the Vulgate also offers a historically interesting example of globalization and outsourcing in printing trade of the Renaissance Europe: the Bible was printed by Jacque Sacon in Lyon Eastern France for the leading German publisher and bookseller Anton Koberger, residing in Nuremberg, Germany.

Sacon Jacques, 1472-1530. Koberger Anton, 1440-1513. 16th century.
