Description
The Tuskegeean, Alumni Newsletter, 1931
Vol. 2, No. 1, Ohio Edition, "Official Organ of the Tuskegee General Alumni Association." This edition "Dedicated to the life and memory of Wright Barton Walker, Massillon, Ohio." Folio, printed wraps, 40pp. According to Danky (1998), the Tuskegeean (entry 5978) started in 1930 and its publication was irregular. As with many alumni publications, a lot of the content is updates on graduates and notifications of local alumni meetings. This one has several pages on Walker, who was born into slavery in Madison, GA, year uncertain. When Sherman marched through that state, like many other African Americans, Walker joined the former slaves following the army. After emancipation, Walker made his way north to New York and eventually, Massillon, OH, where he worked for several prominent families.
