Description
Hasegawa (Takejiro).- Verhaeren (Emile) Images Japonaises, 6 poems in French, fine colour woodblock illustrations by Kason throughout, light damp-staining, bound and stitched Japanese-style, original pictorial wrappers, first gathering separated at fore-edge, lower stitching becoming loose, rubbing and damp-staining to covers, [Sharf p.73], oblong 8vo, Tokyo, Hasegawa, 1896.
⁂ The colophon and illustrations are identical to Glimpses of Japan, also published by Hasegawa. It is possible that these poems were added to the existing work to create a piece for the Paris Exposition of 1900. Verhaeven, a Belgian poet, became an influential writer in Japan in the late-Meiji period.
