Description
A 1990s Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster replica, no serial number, in relic sunburst finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist.
Randy was a huge fan of legendary blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, mesmerized by the man’s sound and mastery of his instrument. Some time after Vaughan’s tragic death in 1990, Randy got a call from friend of the Vaughan family Sean Cummings, who often found guitars for Randy at the time.
“He called me and said, ‘I can get you an SRV Strat. It’s an exact replica of everything, you can’t tell the difference.’” This is the guitar that showed up.
While this guitar is certainly a replica of Vaughan’s famous “Number One” Stratocaster, we are unable to verify its make. The headstock wears a Fender decal, which is poorly-applied, but the neck itself doesn’t appear to be Fender in origin. Gold Kluson-style tuners, 21 vintage-style frets on a 7.25” radius rosewood fretboard with aged dot inlays, a 1.67” nut width, and a 5-59 pencil date at the heel, though the neck is clearly not 1950s vintage. The finish is smooth and clean, and consistently amber in color.
The two-piece alder body has a slightly off-center seam, finished with a poly sealer, with a sunburst applied on top. The finish has been artificially aged to match the wear and damage patterns on Stevie Ray Vaughan’s original guitar.
The guitar has a gold neck plate, chrome bridge with replaced B string saddle, gold pickguard screws, and chrome pickup height adjustment screws. The pickups are from Van Zandt, and the pots date to 1992. Pickup covers, switch tip, and knobs are all of different plastics. Gold output jack plate. Chrome strap buttons.
Stevie’s signature is carved into the back of the guitar as seen on his original guitar. Five tremolo springs. Heavy gauge half-round strings; high E string is broken.
Includes an older black Fender logo hardshell case with red interior.
