Description
China, Han Dynasty, ca. 300 - 0 BCE. Bronze with gold overlay (gilt) belt hook depicting a roaring fierce tiger. In China, the tiger is the king of all beasts and symbolized powerful energy. In addition, the tiger is associated with the deity Tsai Shen Yeh, the God of Wealth, who is usually depicted sitting atop a tiger in Asian art. Some also believe that the tiger is the protector of the deceased, often seen in graves assuring peace for all eternity. Size: 3"W (7.6 cm) x 1"H (2.5 cm). Custom lucite mount.
