North America, Mound Builder culture, ca. 1000 BCE. A stone eccentric fetish in the form of a turtle created by a Native American artisan of the Mound Builders cultures. Mound Builders were a culture of people in North America who constructed mounds out of earth for residential, religious and burial purposes. Size: 2"H x 1"W.

Provenance: Ex-.P. Richardson Museum, Massachusetts; ex-private Roland E. Engstrom collection, Massachusetts.
