Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful jarlet of a petite form, hand-carved from honey-yellow alabaster with bands of vibrant yellow coursing throughout the composition; the bands illuminate when held to a bright light. The vessel is defined by a flat base, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a corseted neck line, and a squat rim. The hollow interior was formed via progressively smaller drill bits and copious amounts of abrasive sand, and some of the original drill marks are still visible within. Size: 2.375" Diameter x 2.2" H (6 cm x 5.6 cm).
Provenance: The Dere Family Collection, New York, USA, assembled 1970s-2000s; ex-Dr. Sid Port Collection, California, USA, acquired in 1980s

Condition
Professionally repaired from multiple pieces, with resurfacing and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to base, body, and rim, with light encrustations within interior cavity. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
