Description
Letter written by 20-year-old Henry A. Belcher of the 13th New Hampshire Infantry to his parents and siblings. Two pages with postal cover. Please see fourth photo listed for the scan of a full transcription.
Private Belcher writes that he is well and that he hopes “General Grant will have luck down to Vicksburg, and General Meade will have luck up to take Lee’s army and our folks have good luck in taking Richmond.” He asks several questions about life back in New Hampshire and finishes with “please write soon and give my love to all my friends. Please write all the news.”
Private Belcher died of disease a little more than fourth months after writing this letter.
