Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Native American, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi), Southern Colorado Plateau, ca. 1075 to 1250 CE. A fascinating example of a ladle bowl in the black-on-white pottery tradition. The dimple where a handle would have been attached is clearly visible, providing an idea of how this characteristic artifact was made. The interior is well polished, slipped, and has a grey-white surface with black decoration of lines and dots that resembles a circle of abstract anthropomorphic figures. This item was made for heating and serving food, and would have ultimately been deposited with a deceased member of the community or left in an abandoned domestic space. Size: 5.15" W x 3.25" H (13.1 cm x 8.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-Joan Shaw collection, bought in 1971; loaned to the Mesa Verde Museum, 1962-1970; ex-Bill Mitchell collection, Cortez, Colorado, USA, from 1958-1962
