Item Details
Description
Native American, Western & Northern United States, likely Sioux, Apache, Iroquois, & Ojibwe, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A collection of 4 single toddler and child sized beaded hide moccasins and a loom beaded belt sash. One moccasin has beadwork along the sole, so it may not have been worn often, perhaps only on special occasions, since the beading is intact. The red cotton covered, and the suede and yellow ribbon shoes may both be Iroquois. The other two are perhaps from western plains tribes. The belt has loom woven beads, not embroidered, the pattern visible on both sides and attached to a silk band - perhaps Ojibwe style. The size and inability to adjust the band suggests this was a child's belt or perhaps used as a garter or headband. Size of largest moccasin: 4" L x 1.5" W (10.2 cm x 3.8 cm)

Condition
Moccasins are all single shoes and do not match. Fair to good antique conditions. The red cotton with translucent beading is tearing and fraying - losses to beads and red cloth, and old inactive insect holes. Staining and discoloration to all. Beaded belt band has a few losses to threads and pulls / fraying to beads, but overall nice preservation.
