Description
This Sevan Kazak has a strikingly wide format. The field is filled almost completely by a green shield medallion with two octagonal tips and a red cartouche at its centre. Two blue triangles patterned with tiny crosses face each other in the corners. The wide white main border features large star-shaped blossoms in a design typical for carpets from the southern Caucasus, with four diagonal arms ending in buds. An almost identical Sevan Kazak was exhibited in 1962 at the Museum fur Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt.
Obvious signs of age and wear, low spots in the pile, replaced selvedges on both sides, slightly reduced lower finish. Provenance: Ehrengard Freifrau von Trotha Collection. Formerly in the collection of Peter-Christian Graf von Kleist-Retzow
