Description
second half 19th century, 216 x 173 cm, South Caucasus, Azerbaijan

Woven in a single piece, this flatwoven cover shows a brocaded design of 24 compartments separated by wide dividing bands. Its fine quality and harmonious palette are appealing features. The red warps are braided into plaits at both ends. Known as “verneh“ in the past, these covers are now called “zili” due to their weaving technique. A very similar example from the Vok Collection was sold by us in 2017 and is described in detail in the auction catalogue.
